Public Service Media (PSM) and Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote the Maldives’ tourism during the upcoming Asia Media Summit.
The signing ceremony was held at PSM’s TV Building.
The summit will take place from 11 to 14 May and is being organised by PSM. The agreement focuses on promoting the Maldives’ tourism through collaboration with international media outlets attending the summit.
The MoU was signed by PSM’s Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb and VMC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuree.
Speaking to PSM News, Shakeeb said given the Maldives’ dependence on tourism, the summit is a major opportunity to showcase the country internationally, especially as tourism is a key industry. He noted that international media organisations, including Russia’s RT, will participate, providing exposure in important tourism markets such as Russia.
VMC’s Shiuree said the partnership would help build relationships with foreign media organisations and create more opportunities to promote the Maldives in international markets and media platforms. He also said the summit would help showcase the country’s tourism products to international participants.
The summit is hosted by the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development. Around 300 participants from 30 countries are expected to attend. This year’s summit theme is “From Tradition to Tech”.
