PSM signs deal to broadcast Dheenuge Adu in Dharavandhoo

Public Service Media (PSM) has signed an agreement with the Maldives Amateur Radio Society to broadcast the religious radio channel, Dheenuge Adu, in Dharavandhoo, Baa Atoll.

The agreement was signed during a ceremony held at the PSM Television Building, with PSM Managing Director Ahmed Shakeeb representing the state media company.

The collaboration marks a step towards expanding access to religious programming across the Maldives through amateur radio technology. Under the agreement, PSM will provide the equipment required to broadcast Dheenuge Adu to residents of Dharavandhoo.

Speaking at the ceremony, Shakeeb said the initiative is intended to support public service broadcasting rather than generate financial returns.

“Our goal is to provide all audio and video channels under the PSM umbrella to all the people of the Maldives. However, not all channels are available to everyone for various reasons,” he said.

Shakeeb added that PSM has always been willing to work with private parties to improve access to its services.

Maldives Amateur Radio Society Vice President Mohamed Ibrahim said the association had been working towards the initiative for several months. He revealed plans to expand the service to other islands in the future through partnerships with nearby island councils.

“We are planning to use around 25 watts, which would be enough to reach Dhonfanu in Baa Atoll. However, we are using limited power as our primary target is Dharavandhoo,” he said.

The Maldives Amateur Radio Society represents licensed amateur radio operators who provide radio services under individual licences.

There are currently four licensed amateur radio operators in the Maldives.
